DMN Youth Ocean Conservation Summit 2027
Vietnam
DMN Youth Ocean Conservation Summit, run in partnership with DMN Foundation, One Young World, UNDP, MY World, Tran Hung Dao School and Vietnamese Local Government, serves as an opportunity for young people with an interest in marine biological science to meet professional marine scientists and science communicators for inspiration and ideas, but also to share their own projects and marine science activities.
The DMN Youth Ocean Conservation Summit 2020 took place in Nurimaru APEC House in Busan, Korea. The delegates were able to explore the beautiful beaches and discover the diverse marine life in Korea. It was an incredible opportunity for young conservationists to come together and learn about the importance of protecting our oceans.
Through the summit, delegates are also inspired by their peers – youth leaders who are taking immediate action leading projects to protect the ocean. This event allow participants to gain the skills necessary to successfully implement conservation projects, teach participants about career opportunities in marine conservation, and expose them to opportunities they can take part in to help protect our planet's oceans and their inhabitants. The white papers generated by delegates were sent directly to leaders for shaping the marine policy worldwide.
In 2023, DMN Youth Ocean Conservation Summit 2023 took place from 22nd March 2023 to 27th March 2023 at Cua Viet Beach & DMN Hall of Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province, Vietnam (Phase 1), from 25th May 2023 to 29th May 2023 in Jakarta Aquarium Safari, Indonesia (Phase 2), from 9th July 2023 to 13th July 2023 in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Hunan, China (Phase 3).
Looking forward, the DMN Youth Ocean Conservation Summit 2027 will expand its global footprint through a multi-phase international structure co-hosted across two strategic maritime hubs:
-
Phase 1 (Vietnam | May 2027): Taking place from 18th May 2027 to 24th May 2027 at Cua Tung Beach & DMN Hall, Quang Tri Province, Vietnam. This phase will center on coastal ecosystem resilience, field hydrographic research, community marine conservation, and youth advocacy against marine pollution.
-
Phase 2 (Netherlands | October 2027): Convening in Nijmegen and The Hague, Netherlands, serving as a cross-continental bridge between Southeast Asia and Europe. This phase will focus on UNCLOS, international marine environmental law, AI-assisted ocean governance, and climate change baselines.
Delegates will engage in field research, legal policy simulations, and academic exchanges with international marine scientists and legal scholars. White papers generated by participants will be submitted directly to international institutions and regional policymakers to shape rule-based ocean policy worldwide.
The Call for Delegates will be released around January 2027.
The DMN Youth Ocean Conservation Summit is a unique opportunity for young people to come together and make a difference in the world. With a focus on ocean conservation, this summit will provide a platform for youth to share their ideas, learn from experts, and take action to protect our oceans. Join us in this important mission and be a part of the solution.
