Shaping the Future of Nuclear Energy: DMN President at the NEA Global Symposium 2025

Our President H.E. Mr. Dao Manh Nghia had the honor of representing the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) and the Erasmus Mundus Programme in International Law of Global Security, Peace and Development (ILGSPD) at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) Global Forum and Young Professionals Programme, held at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, from 30 September to 2 October 2025.

A central feature of the symposium was the NEA Young Professionals Programme — a platform designed to empower emerging leaders to exchange perspectives, engage with international experts, and contribute to shaping the future of nuclear energy.

Reflecting on the experience, President Nghia shared:“What I found most meaningful was the chance to be an influencer and role model for young people.”

He had the privilege of engaging with high school students across Michigan, sharing his academic and professional journey, encouraging youth participation in nuclear advocacy, and demonstrating how the field connects scientific innovation with a broader human mission. This moment affirmed the vital role that young professionals play as bridges between current leadership and the next generation.

Throughout the forum, discussions emphasized the need for cross-sector and cross-border collaboration to build a sustainable and secure nuclear future. The symposium concluded with a tabletop exercise, where participants worked in teams to design initiatives aimed at strengthening and diversifying the future nuclear workforce.

President Nghia also presented his poster, “From Fear to Future: Reframing Nuclear Energy Through a Nuclear Disarmament Lens,” advocating for mechanisms that ensure the peaceful use of nuclear technology, strengthen public trust, and highlight nuclear energy’s contribution to global climate goals and sustainable peace.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Prof. Lesley-Ann Daniels (IBEI) for the nomination, and to the OECD NEA and the University of Michigan for providing full sponsorship — making this opportunity possible.

The future of nuclear energy relies on people. DMN remains committed to inspiring and empowering a new generation of youth dedicated to advancing both nuclear energy and nuclear disarmament for a safer, more sustainable world.
